Prieuré de Saint-Jean-de-Bébian

Prieuré de Saint-Jean-de-Bébian

“I think it is the vineyard of tomorrow. I’m a great believer in its grand terroir” so speaks someone who should know. Chantal Lecouty and Jean-Claude Le Brun were editors of La Revue du Vin de France before buying Prieuré de Saint-Jean-de-Bébian in the early 1990’s. Their wines, along with those of Mas de Daumas Gassac, gained international acclaim before many others in the region, their difference being that they grow traditional Languedoc grapes. Alain Roux, the previous owner of the estate, had the vision to buy in Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre vines to plant alongside Cinsault and Carignan. Chantal and Jean-Claude continue the legacy, perhaps even adding elegance and finesse. Deliberately steering well clear of over-extraction, low yields and attention to detail when sorting the fruit have resulted in a civilised and drinkable range of wines. This domain is one of the top handful in the Languedoc.
