Domaine Alain Chabanon

Domaine Alain Chabanon

Alain Chabanon is based at Lagamas and has vineyard holdings around the village of Montpeyroux. All his superb wines undergo long macerations, with a minimum of four to five weeks. Alain has Grenache, Merlot, Syrah and Mourvèdre vines as well as some Chenin Blanc and is certified as fully organic - using no chemicals in the vineyard or chais and pioneering the use of fenugreek to prevent disease. Some people grumble about the winds, but not Alain. He is happy that the dry north-west Tramontane blows clean fresh air through the vines, discouraging mildew and rot and helping produce a crop of healthy grapes. From the south and south-east, the Autan brings welcome cooling marine winds and rainfall which helps refresh the vines - particularly the young ones which can suffer in years when the heat is a touch strong. His domain was formerly known as Domaine Font Caude but Alain has now changed it to Domaine Chabanon.

Domaine Alain Chabanon - Le Petit Merle Aux Alouettes / 2008 / Red
£ 14.95
Sold Out
This cuvée is what has been and will be called Le Merle aux alouettes in all other vintages. Alain feared that the 2003 vintage may not be up to scratch so lowered the price, he was therefore both delighted and sad to discover that it was just as excellent as all other vintages when the vinification had finished, he says this will be a collectors item. Seductive, aromatic, rich and plummy, with just enough tannin to add body and structure, this wine holds its own with Bordeaux’s best! The classic soft fruity Merlot characteristics are lifted with just a touch of spice and cloves. A sophisticated wine. Learn More
