Château des Estanilles

Château des Estanilles

Headed up by Michel Louison, this estate is very much a family affair. Successfully treading the line between modern technology and traditional principles, Michel and his daughter Sophie have created a modern, spotlessly clean and efficient chais, state-of-theart tasting room and office while, at the same time, remaining true to Michel’s own rebellious reputation. A pioneer of high density planting, they use a high trellising system but insist on only caterpillar tractors in the vineyards to minimise soil disturbance. They grow all five of the traditionally red Languedoc grapes but Michel favours the Syrah which provides the basis for their Grande Cuvée. Irrestible Languedoc.

Château des Estanilles - Rouge Prestige / 2000 / Red
£ 11.95
The Syrah only goes into barriques for a year and the wine is bottled 18 months after the vintage for a long élevage. It has a powerful nose of stewed black fruits together with mint and herbs. The palate is well balanced and smooth with the same ripe fruits and hints of liquorice. Learn More
