Quick Overview

This wine is a blend of Syrah and Grenache grapes from old vines with very small yields. In contrast to Les Nobles Pierres, the two cépages are blended before vinification and aged in oak barrels together. Attractive red berry fruit and spice with a note of mint and toasted oak. Spicy Syrah palate with ripe fruit and a long finish.

Domaine Description

Jean Benoît Cavalier took over the family owned Château de Lascaux in the sleepy village of Vacquières in 1984 and started replanting with Syrah and Grenache. Named Lascaux after the stones in the vineyards, his terroir is composed of pebbly soil ‘cailloutis’. He, like the other vignerons, revels in the location of his vineyards with a genuine passion for and special bond with his environment. He still produces his wine in the Château’s 12th and 13th century caves althought the domaine has been in a state of evolution over the past few years and now has modern, state of the art wine making equipment.
