Quick Overview

Deep garnet red with aromas of red fruit, lavender and wild thyme; very smooth with soft tannins, clean yet fruity with distinct flavours of damsons and hints of spice.

Domaine Description

Alain Chabanon is based at Lagamas and has vineyard holdings around the village of Montpeyroux. All his superb wines undergo long macerations, with a minimum of four to five weeks. Alain has Grenache, Merlot, Syrah and Mourvèdre vines as well as some Chenin Blanc and is certified as fully organic - using no chemicals in the vineyard or chais and pioneering the use of fenugreek to prevent disease.

Some people grumble about the winds, but not Alain. He is happy that the dry north-west Tramontane blows clean fresh air through the vines, discouraging mildew and rot and helping produce a crop of healthy grapes. From the south and south-east, the Autan brings welcome cooling marine winds and rainfall which helps refresh the vines - particularly the young ones which can suffer in years when the heat is a touch strong. His domaine was formerly known as Domaine Font Caude but Alain has now changed it to Domaine Alain Chabanon.
