Clos Centeilles - Carignanissime de Centeilles / 2007 / Red
Quick Overview
This wine has a wonderful nose of fruit, cocoa and spices with overtones of aromatic herbs and leather. The palate is rounded and fruit driven. Maturation and bottling is done only in tanks and not in barrels for this cuvée in order to retain the primary fruit flavours. Bottling takes soon after, again to ensure that the fruit is “imprisoned in the bottle” (as the Marquis D’Angerville once said of his Meursaults).
Domaine Description
Patricia and Daniel Domergue’s Christmas 2001 newsletter entitled “Clos Centeilles and the whirlwind of fashion” expressed a strong allegiance to ‘terroir and tradition’, an unwillingness to compromise by following fashion and a respect for the identity, quality and tradition of Languedoc wines - not just the ambition to make money from them. Professor Daniel Domergue is a wine scholar cum winemaker who regrets bitterly the demise in status of the Cinsault grape. In his view, true Languedoc style is not represented by the huge black and over-oaked wines made by some estates but rather wines that are true to the terroir that speak and shows their quality through their grapes.
