Château des Estanilles / 1999/ Red
Quick Overview
This wine is barrel aged for 13 months with a third being made from new wood. An opulent nose of tar, leather and cocoa gives way to very ripe and generous fruit. Full and rounded on the palate with a firm mineral structure, soft tannins and balanced acidity. Vanilla cream on the finish.
Domaine Description
Headed up by Michel Louison, this estate is very much a family affair. Successfully treading the line between modern technology and traditional principles, Michel and his daughter Sophie have created a modern, spotlessly clean and efficient chais, state-of the art tasting room and office while, at the same time, remaining true to Michel’s own rebellious reputation. A pioneer of high density planting, they use a high trellising system but insist on only caterpillar tractors in the vineyards to minimise soil disturbance. They grow all five of the traditionally red Languedoc grapes but Michel favours the Syrah which provides the basis for their Grande Cuvée. Irrestibale Languedoc.
