We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time.
T.S Eliot (Little Gidding)
So quotes Paul Old, ex-dancer, winemaker and proprietor of Les Clos Perdus on his website. In 2003 he sought out and bought several parcels of hidden, isolated and ancient ‘forgotten vineyards’ in the Corbières region which he has tended to and worked organically and biodynamically by hand ever since. The winery is based in the maritime Corbières village of Peyriac-de-Mer and the tiny parcels of vines scattered all around this region, the Haute Corbières and the Agly valley in Roussillon. The care, love and attention he affords his vineyards is acutely evident in his wines as are the identity and personality of each clos and grape variety. It’s been a long journey in search of a Corbières wine for our list and we’re delighted to have discovered this little gem.
